It’s been our fortune to have made some good draft picks in the past. When The Jam Van was hardly mobile and resided mostly in the lot behind my house, we had a much smaller draft pool to invite bands to Jam in the Van from. We hadn’t established ourselves in the way that we have today, and furthermore, we were fairly stationary and couldn’t meet up with bands at places where they were already going to be. So we mostly pulled our sessions from bands local to the LA area that were just getting their feet wet. As luck had it, a good handful of those bands have gone on to release popular albums and tour nationally. At the time, we had no way of knowing what we were picking for our sessions other than what our ears told us. We could hear in the early incantations of these bands that bigger sounds were coming. Obviously chips have to fall the right way, work has to be put in, layers added on, people coming and going and long nights and longer roads trudged down, but if the right ingredients are there from the start then luck can step in. We enjoy all of the music we put on our channel, it’s just sometimes we catch it at the very start, when the embers aren’t fully stoked yet. If that happens, if we hear something special, we’re going to try our best to help quicken the flames. We hear something cool here in Valley Queen, and again, we have a very good track record…
