The bummer about music phestivals is that they eventually end. There’s always a final act closing out the weekend. There’s always clean-up at the campsite and saying goodbye to your phestival friends. Sure, sometimes it’s “see you next year,” or even “next phest,” but it’s still over, you still have to go back to someplace for the week, where you’ll undoubtedly tell all colleagues, classmates, friends and family about the amazing time you had the weekend prior. That’ll last for a couple of days, but eventually the memories too will fade. When you get to the stop in life where you’re not really stoked on going back to work on the Monday after the head-show, it really starts to resonate, that closing song.
The boys of Stop Light Observations showed up to Bonnaroo with wide eyes. Seems like yhey’re just starting on their journey, and so the excitement of realizing their dreams for the first time at a place like Bonnaroo, well it was etched all over their faces. So while it doesn’t seem like they’ve come across too many nine-to-fives yet, and that Mondays probably aren’t that rough to wake up for, I’m sure they felt the post-festival let-down just as much as any. Which is of course is why we go to work, or strap on a guitar and dream, all the same. We’re just getting from good time to good time. Riding on heady vibes and happy faces, with a little bit of bummer in between.
I’m quite confident that by this time next year, these dudes will be showing up to phestivals like old pros. Things won’t look so new anymore. However, that doesn’t mean that they lose their magic. No, no, that never goes away, and that’s why we all keep coming back for more, life that is, the type that’s worth living. So enjoy these videos with a side of smile, and count on seeing these Charleston boys somewhere fun, sometime soon…
