So as it were, I was standing behind the main stage at Telluride Blues & Brews. To my right was the homie Spud, in front of us was Ms. ZZ Ward, behind us roadies were unloading The Black Crowes’ gear, and in front of us Gary Clark Jr. was ripping into the strings on a guitar. It was a very heady moment, within which something even headier occurred. To my periphery stood Anne Harris, whose name, at the time, I did not know. She was talking to a companion, and although my concentration was focused on the sounds coming from Gary Clark’s guitar, I catch a few bits and pieces of what she was saying. I heard the words “van thing,” and “8 AM call time.”

Now for those of you who don’t know us, I will say simply, we don’t do 8 AM call time. That’s lunacy. So at that moment I felt that it would be in everyone’s best interest if I interjected.

“Hey, I’m pretty sure I’m that van thing.”

“Oh, hey! This guy says he knows the deal with the van thing.”

So you see, had it not been for that one fateful moment in time, had I not been standing exactly where I was standing, next to exactly who I was standing next to, I would have never overheard Anne Harris, and she along with Otis Taylor would have shown up at 8 AM to a very desolate van, and this session may very well never have occurred. However, as fate would have it, we met, and as fate would have it, this took place.
