In writing classes they always pressed upon you the importance of avoiding the use of clichés in your writing. Be it prose or non-fiction, cliché statements were always no-nos. That being said, sometimes clichés or stereotypes are the best way to convey something, and sometimes they ain’t all that bad. Take for instance Matthew E. White. He’s got long hair and plays rock and roll music. Some might consider that a cliché or stereotype, and sure, it kind of is, but guess what? Having long hair and playing rock and roll is awesome, an no damn English teacher is going to tell us otherwise. So in the hopes of sounding as cliché as possible, rock and roll is here to stay!
