On his instagram page, our Creative Director, Jack, lists his drone pilot certification credentials above his “Creative Director at JITV” title. In Austin, where we filmed Illiterate Light, Jack flew his drone over Lake Travis and crashed it into a tree on the other side of the lake. Our poor intern, Ben, had to paddle in a Kayak alongside Jack Higgins, Certified Drone Pilot, on a recon mission to retrieve this drone. Fascinated onlookers gathered on the shore wondering if Jack would indeed be able to recover his beloved machine. It was touch and go for a while and even looked doomed when the red light that had been flashing in the tree, demarcating the drone’s position, went dark. Yet then Jack emerged, triumphant, drone raised above his head, little red light blinking…
