I’ve been getting writer’s block on these passages lately. I think it’s in part because we haven’t been on the road for a while. Instead we’ve been filming in Los Angeles, which is home, and I’m seeing less new stuff to write about. Most likely equal blame can be laid upon the fact that writing a new one of these every day and making it worth a damn to read is tricky, if not downright difficult. Unless of course the music does the writing for me, which isn’t an every day occurrence, but if we’re doing our job right it happens a good amount of the time.
Anyways, I’ve been looking forward to writing something about this guy since sitting outside The Van on a chilly December morning in Pasadena. We seem to always film Gold Star when it’s cold outside. This most recent session reminds me of the first video I ever saw of this fella, playing a guitar and a harp by himself, in a chair. I played that video over and over again, and I still do. These are the types of songs that you can put on in the background and they’ll trick you into spitting out a bunch of words on a page. They’re inspiring. They move you. All of that good cheese-ball stuff… they really are.
I was excited to write about these inspiring songs, and all I ended up doing was writing about how excited I was. Luckily I have three more songs that I can play over and over again. Because I’m going to be writing a lot more of these paragraphs over the next few years, that’s for certain.
