On Friday night at Bottle Rock, while winding down on the Lagunitas inflateable couches after a long first day a phenomenal idea was hatched. Starting Saturday morning we would begin to tell festival goers, musicians, vendors, and one very important member of our crew, that the festival had arranged a special guest for us to film a Jam in the Van session with on Sunday afternoon. That very important member of our crew was Ethan Glaze, our sound engineer. Ethan is ex-Navy, a talented sound tech, a Peter Griffin doppleganger, and also a highly talented karaoke performer. Over the course of the next two days we built up our special guest story. Most people thought it was going to be Snoop Dogg, Ethan certainly thought that was whom he would be recording Sunday at 3PM.

So when the day was upon us we summoned a big crowd over to watch an episode of Cuz’s Corner, the end of which featured Spud segwaying into a countdown for the announcement of our special guest. When he got to “one” on his count we put up a big picture of the special guest on our Toshiba monitors outside The Van. Watch the crowd’s reaction to the reveal in the video, it was priceless, because they were all thinking Snoop, and we dropped Ethan Glaze’s face on the screen and nobody knew what was going on but us.

To his credit, Ethan, AKA Fenomenon, took it like a champ. He might still be red in the face to this day, but he belted out his rendition of Nina Simone’s “Feeling Good” like a stud. A feel good ending to a damn good prank…
