We recently went to the California Roots Festival in Monterey, CA. It was a good time, an extra heady one at that, but it was cold up there by the sea. I walked away from the festival with some kind of a nasty virus and I was confined to a hotel room for the next four days of our trip. Being sick sucks. Being sick in a hotel really sucks. So I’m not saying that me listening to “Just a Fool” by Brother Grand over and over again in my sick room made it an enjoyable experience. I’m just saying that it made it a little less sucky, which is saying a lot.
Honestly, every once in a while on this Jam Van trip we get a song that I hit the repeat button on, a lot. I’m pretty sure it drives my neighbors or in this case, the folks staying next to me at that hotel, crazy. Sometimes a song just hits home. Not just the music part of it, but the simplicity of what it’s saying. Music is really good at saying stuff that you’ve thought before. Simiple, easy to get stuff, that we all want to or have to think about. In regards to “Just a Fool,” I get it, or at least I think I do, which is in the case of a song, enough. hopefully you’ll get it too. You should, unless you’re still growing up and maybe you don’t get it yet. Then it’s just something to look forward to. Until that time, you can always hit repeat…
