Black Joe Lewis, an Austin-based contemporary singer and guitarist, channels the spirit of vintage blues, soul, and R&B. Backed by his band, the Honeybears, Lewis draws inspiration from iconic figures known for their powerful vocal deliveries, such as Howlin’ Wolf, Wilson Pickett, James Brown, and the smooth stylings of Sam Cooke. He released his debut album on Weary in 2007. In 2009, Black Joe Lewis & the Honeybears collaborated with Jim Eno (Spoon) for their album “Tell ‘Em What Your Name Is!” on Lost Highway. The band toured extensively before recording the edgier follow-up, “Scandalous,” featuring a guest appearance by the gospel group the Relatives. “Scandalous” was released in March 2011. Lewis returned in 2013 with his fourth studio album, the raw and lively “Electric Slave.” After a brief hiatus, Lewis resurrected the Honeybears for the 2017 album “Backlash,” which delved into harder grooves and a stronger rock & roll influence.
