Being in a band vs. being a solo act is kind of like being on a soccer team vs. being a singles tennis player. When you’re in a band it’s a team effort, everyone succeeds and fails together. When you’re solo it’s just your name on the bill. You succeed and fail all to your lonesome. Anna Kramer is to my knowledge the first performer to take on The Van stage as part of a band, Shantih Shantih, and as a solo act. Her band was the first to go, and so she had a good feel for the space leading up to her solo session. We were hanging out at Thunderbox Studios in Atlanta, and after Shantih Shantih performed, for those two days Anna and our guy Spud were locked in deep conversation. I have no idea what was said, because when Spud’s locked in deep conversation I tend to run the other way, but I’m sure it was of substance (ha). I’m also sure that if Spud gives his seal of approval, then we give ours.
