New Orleans can deceive you into thinking it’s an amusement park for adults. It’s so unlike any other city, everyone alwyas seems to be in party mode all of the time, music bounces off of every wall and down every street, and beer caps get shucked alongside oysters all day long. You forget that it’s a city and people go to work there each day and live normal lives there, each day.
So after The Andrew Duhon Trio finished playing their set outside of Kermit Ruffins’ Treme Mother in Law Lounge, they started discussing where they were off to next. The bassist wanted to go swimming, the drummer had to go grab his stuff before a gig, and Andrew had some errands to run, just normal everyday stuff. Here we were at Kermit’s place, he’s an iconic New Orleans personage, and we were partying and filming some great acts including Kermit himself, yet these guys were going to run errands.
You can forget that New Orleans is a place where people even run errands, and that makes it a pretty magical place. Here’s another flick of that magic, from a local boy and his two musical companions, one of whom hopefully went swimming later that day.
